An ongoing series of happenstances...

"david a. estringel"

December 26, 2018

The last few months of 2018 have been amazing in terms of publication of my prose and verse. Many opportunities are still yet to come in 2019, so as the new year approaches, I decided to create a new website for myself. My WordPress website, the booky man, will be retired January 31, 2019. My new site, david a. estringel, will still allow me to share my stuff online but will exclusively focus on my writing and all that is involved with it. I am having a blast putting this site together and will hopefully have it up-an-running by the 1st of January. Stay tuned!

"Wrapping-Up 2018 with Great News!"

December 27, 2018

Well, I am still furiously submitting the last of my experimental poems, "Sucking the Marrow," "Smooth Whiskey," and "Killers," to various literary mags and journals for publication. I was blessed to have the four other of the batch accepted by Cajun Mutt Press ("Storms," "Coffeehouse Romance," and "Just Another Day") and Former People Journal ("Blue Room"). Hopefully, they will find a home soon. Luckily, I had the chance to get a couple of haikus of mine, "Epiphanies" and "Solace #2" accepted for publication early January by The Ugly Writers. Great news!

"One Down, Two to Go!"

December 28, 2018

Woohoo! "Sucking the Marrow" was accepted today for publication January 2019 by Writ in Dust. So excited it found a home.  Now, I just need to find a home (or homes) for the other two. Keeping my fingers crossed.

"Yeah!!"

December 29, 2018

Got the best news today. Both Cephalopress and Salt Ink wanted to published my poems "Smooth Whiskey" and "Killers" (with Cephalopress hitting me up first). Very excited about seeing my work in their mag. Also shot some previously published poems to Merak Magazine for possible reprint. Hope to have some of them published there. Their online magazine is pretty amazing and I love their mission, which is to get poets words out there and appreciated. It is quite refreshing to see a magazine that is not so focused on their own aesthetic, making things about the art. Keeping my fingers crossed.

"Happy New Year!!"

January 1, 2019

Happy New Year, everyone!!! Quick tidbit of info...The Ugly Writers will publish "Solace #2" January 7, 2019 and "Epiphanies" shortly after. They will be promoting both heavily on Facebook and Instagram. The editorial team is great to work with. Very excited! I am also pretty excited about submitting a manuscript for a book of poetry to Tinderbox Editions today.  We will see what happens with that.

"Couple Things

January 4, 2019

Things are looking up for 2019! I was approached by Channillo via Twitter to write a series for their online, digital publishing platform. The whole concept is pretty interesting with writers writing content for site and have customers subscribe to their series. Anyhoo, I submitted a proposal last night so if all goes well I will have another column run with them, indefinitely, along with my first weekly one "Going Grey with David Estringel" at The Good Men Project

Second thing is that prose poem "Olokun" will be reprinted at Salt Water Soul in their second biannual print magazine later in 2019.

Latest Installment of "Going Grey with David Estringel" WAS Scheduled for Publication Today at 2 PM CST...BUT Got Rejected! Looking for a Taker...

January 24 2019

"Getting Down to Brass Tacks" was scheduled for publication at 2PM at The Good Men Project today, but the essay was rejected. I am not sure what the reason was other than it didn't "follow editorial guidelines" (not sure what that means, but I can't wait to find out). It happens. Nonetheless, the essay was in my brain and waiting to see the light of day. So, why not try to get it published, elsewhere? Maybe it will be an original piece for my own website? Not sure, yet. More than likely, this is the last bit of commentary on the topic of "toxic masculinity." Interesting subject, indeed, but there really are better things in this world to focus on. It is an important conversation to have; however, we (men) are better served if we learn how to re-evaluate our own values and beliefs and bring awareness to how they impact our behavior. Labeling, really, doesn't do a thing to move things forward. Just my two cents.

A Collaborative Piece in the Works for Concordance Journal!!!

April 23, 2019

Received word today from Concordance Journal about the pairing they had made between another artist (a painter, in fact) and me to come up with an original creative piece. Completely loving this sort of multi-modal approach of artistic expression. Concordance Journal will follow my partner and me throughout the process so there will be a lot of "behind the scenes" updates and coverage. Of course, I will post things now and then, as well. This will be my first foray into collaborative work, so I am quite excited. More details to come as things solidify!

An Embarrassment of Riches from Cajun Mutt Press!!!

May 2, 2019

The darkly erotic (and new) poem "little deaths" was submitted last night, as promised, to Cajun Mutt Press and accepted this morning for June 26, 2019, publication. Along with the acceptance came a remarkable offer to become a "permanent fixture at Cajun Mutt Press as a monthly featured writer." Of course, this amazing opportunity was jumped on lickety-split! Looking forward to a long and creative relationship with Cajun Mutt Press for the long haul.

David Estringel Joining Fishbowl Press as Poetry Editor!!!

May 2, 2019

As a result of the submission of some pretty bad ass poetry and prose (if David does say so himself), some barrier-free email swapping, and a whole lot of mutual admiration, David Estringel will be joining his new boy-crush Fishbowl Press and its team as their Poetry Editor. For those familiar with the publication, Fishbowl Press publishes rather remarkable short-fiction pieces ONLY, so the inclusion of poetry into the mix will definitely shake the dynamics up a bit…but in an awesome way. Details are currently being worked out regarding how Fishbowl Press’ new enhancement will manifest but all at the table are pretty excited about the change.

More to come as details become available.

6 Haiku Poems Reprinted at The Elixir Magazine!

May 5, 2019

The Elixir Magazine, one of my absolutely FAVORITE literary mags (and not just because I am an editor/writer there), reprinted six of my previously published haiku (from Indelible Fingerprints [Alien Buddha Press])in their May 2019 issue:

"Angels in the Morning" (originally published at Expat Press)

"As I Wake" (originally published at Expat Press)

"Gossip" (originally published at Terror House Magazine)

"Epiphanies" (originally published at The Ugly Writers)

"Fireflies" (originally published at Expat Press)

"Gin & Tonic" (originally published at Expat Press)

This feels especially good since I am currently working on content for my second book, which will be a collection of haiku poetry. I am all about haiku right now. The May issue is an especially special one as it is focused ENTIRELY on literature. Looking forward to get back to editing for the June issue. So glad Elixir has continued to support my work and to continually be an "Artist in Residence".
